Work It Out Wellness

Meet Abby Leedy, LMSW

How did I get into this career?

Even as a young child, I can remember being fascinated with people’s stories. I loved to read, learn, and listen to the adults in my life talk about what their life was like at my age. As an adult, this curiosity about others turned into a love for psychology and sociology, and I began to explore careers in human services. In college I majored in sociology, and it was there that I learned personally and professionally the importance of human connection, and how powerful therapy can be. After graduation, I decided to go to the University of Georgia to get my Master’s in social work, where I interned as a therapist for children and families who had been involved in the DFCS system. It was there that I developed a passion for therapy and realized that I wanted to spend the rest of my life learning and growing as therapist. Since then, I have gotten the opportunity to work with many different people in different settings, and I have really loved it! It’s an honor to be able to walk with people during challenging times.

What is my favorite thing about what I do?

I love connecting with others and getting to watch them grow. People change so much throughout the therapeutic process, and seeing that change is one of the greatest privileges of being a therapist. I love the connections that are built throughout the process of therapy; it’s truly special! I also really enjoy it watching big and small moments in my client’s lives and getting to celebrate them together.

What do I hope for my clients/patients?

I hope that you feel like you can show up as your authentic self! Therapy is a place you should be able to go and be exactly who you are without fear of judgment or shame. I want you to know that every way of being in the world is allowed and celebrated in my office and that there is no ‘wrong’ way to show up to therapy. I hope you feel safe and comfortable, and that you feel empowered to ask for what you need from me during our time together. Overall, I just hope that the experience of therapy is positive for you and that you are able to get what you need.

What do I like to do when I’m not at Work It Out Wellness?

I love to spend time with friends, family and pets! I have a very sweet cat named Salem (yes, like from Sabrina) that I love to snuggle with while I read a good book and drink coffee. Otherwise, you’ll find me playing guitar, spending some time outside, or watching my favorite TV shows. I also love to travel when I get the opportunity and have a goal to visit all 7 continents!
