5 Ways to Care for Your Mental Health

Taking care of your mental health is so important and can also be difficult with busy schedules and other distractions! Here are 5 ways to support your mental health:

  1. Find little pockets of time throughout the day to stop and walk, breathe, or stretch. It can 2 minutes or 20 minutes. This gives our brains and bodies a break & provides a little reset for us.

  2. Make time for things you enjoy each week. We all have busy schedules, and while making time for something we enjoy every day would be ideal, it also isn’t always possible. This can be hanging out with friends, watching a movie, going out to new a restaurant, painting, reading – whatever brings you joy and comfort.

  3. Try to move every day, in a way that you enjoy. This can be for 10 minutes or a full hour, but studies show that movement can boost endorphins and other “feel good” chemicals that naturally occur in our bodies. Movement can also be a great way to get out some of the emotional energy that comes with feeling angry or anxious.

  4. Make and build connections with the people around you that bring joy and peace to your life. The people we spend most of our time with impact and influence us (and our mental health) more than we know.

  5. See a therapist. I know, I know. This is a little on the nose but hear me out. Therapy isn’t just for people with “severe” mental health issues. Therapy is a space for you to have an unbiased, empathetic person hear you and guide you to explore past experiences, emotions, relationship patterns, anxiety or depression, and more. Most people would benefit from therapy, and you generally get out what you put in. That being said, finding a therapist that feels like a good fit is the most important part about starting therapy. That, and consistency.
